From the first notes of the opening track, "Good Times," to the last lines of the album's closer, "Work is Done," Joan & The King delivers in such a way that only The Changing Colors can. "We tend to pile on layer after layer and experiment with sounds and ideas and then strip a song back down to what it really needs," says Conor Bourgal, who penned seven of the album's songs, collaborating on the other two tracks with his twin brother Ian. Conor likes to think of his songs as if they had already been written and he is simply trying to learn them, like they are floating around in the aether, waiting for him to pluck them out. Songs of longing and beauty, hope and regret, "My true love knows everything," Conor pleads on the track "True Love Knows," a song Anti-Records recording artist, Jolie Holland lent her signature voice and fiddle to. Joan & The King has no shortage of guest appearances; referred to as "The Cast" in the liner notes, the album features an abundance of Colorado talent, including: Inaiah Lujan and Desirae Garcia of The Haunted Windchimes, Mark Anderson and Macon Terry of Paper Bird and many more.
